Iowa Football Desk Ornaments

These desk ornaments were made for a really good family friend and his son. The bases are made from Hickory and they outline the state of Iowa. The footballs are made from four Walnut blocks glued together to mimic how a football is sewn together. Using a lathe pieces of wood were chiseled away until the iconic football shapes were revealed. They were then sanded down to a smooth surface. The laces were carefully fabricated from small pieces of hickory, glued and pinned into place. The desk ornaments were then carefully brush finished by hand with a satin polyurethane.

As Iowans we take pride in our humility and gain strength from it. No matter where you are in life it is good to know your roots, and Iowa roots are strong.

Retrofitted Table

This customer had outgrown the size of their fully extended table and wanted to know what it would take to make it extend further… Retrofitting a table to extend further may seem like a daunting task. In reality, it is rather straight forward and may be the most cost-effective alternative to purchasing brand new.

First thing was to remove the old extending mechanism underneath and install new table slides that extended the distance required (in this case 6 ½ feet!). Then to fill in the voided space, we fabricated three new table leaves fashioned exactly in the style of the old. Last but not least, in order to safely span the overall distance of the fully extended table (nearly 12 feet!) we needed to add a 5th leg centered under the table.

A big thank you to Diamond Vogel Paint Store for helping us match wood color and stain. They do superb work, and helped make this newly remodeled table look seamless from the old.
